23 Outlaw Midgets rolled into their home track Sunset Speedway to battle. Everyone had a eye on the 5 car, as he has yet to be defeated in 2018.
Four heat races and a 25 lap feature was the schedule for the day. In the first heat the 1 car of Nigel Buttevant had opened up a 10 car length lead only to see a caution fly for a spin out with 3 laps to go. On the restart the 1 and the 84 of Richard Woodland did battle. But lurking in 3rd was the 69 of Wally Wilson in his new car, a lap later Wilson took the lead and went on to win his first ever Outlaw heat race. In heat 2 it was all Bound, who opened up a substantial lead and took the victory.
Heat 3 saw the 69 fall out with motor issues and the 1 car of Buttivant took the victory. Heat 4 was all Bound again. The feature lined up with the dominant car of the night the 5 starting deep in the field. That didn’t stop the freight train, and by lap 6 the 5 was leading, followed by the 62 of McCall, 24 of Brown,2 of James and 1 of Buttivant.
Going into turn 1, James lost the Left rear wheel and brought out the caution.
On the restart is was 5-62-24-1-79.
A lap later saw the 24 of Brown leaving the track after chain issues. The 5 car took a dominant lead with the 62 of McCall holding down 2nd comfortably.
The real battle was for the last podium position between Buttivant , Corrothers and Paradizski.
A last lap pass saw Paradizski in the 4m get his first outlaw podium finish. And the biggest mover this week had to be the 17 of Mikey Homewood driving from the back twice to take 6th place his best ever finish.

OUTLAW MIDGETS KICK OFF THEIR THIRD SEASON
After a long winter, the Outlaw Midgets presented by Dayco Canada, are ready to emerge from hibernation. But teams have been doing everything but resting. New faces and new cars are set to make their debuts at Sunset Speedway on Saturday May, 19th.
Jody Bound returns behind the wheel of the Larry's Small Engines #5 in hopes of defending his back-to-back titles. The job in 2018 is going to be anything but easy. Drivers are hungry to knock him from his perch at the top. Jessica James in the #2 Rhino's Roadhouse entry, is one of the top challengers for the crown, after spending the winter find speed in her ride. The #97 of Robin McLean is set to unveil a new-look Outlaw, and hopes it will be the key that unlocks top spot for him.
Other contenders to keep an eye on this season include; Rob McCall, Steve Lassman, Adam Tyo, Brian and Richard Woodland, Larry Lawson and Monty "Flippin'" Farrell. However, the vets will have a crop of fresh faces to deal with, who are joining the Outlaw Midgets from various disciplines.
While the Outlaw Midgets may be small in size, they are big in on-track action, and 2018 is setting up to be the best season to date.
